Following the request by the African Union, the
Assembly of State Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal
Court that is currently taking place in The Hague, Netherlands organized a
special segment on “Indictment of sitting Heads of State and Governments and its consequences
on Peace and Stability and Reconciliation”.
During the discussions on the special segment, Hon.
Mathias Chikawe, Minister for Constitution and Legal Affairs of the United
Republic of Tanzania intervened and commended the Assembly of State Parties for
according Africa an opportunity to present insights on the Challenges that Africa
is facing in indictment of its sitting Heads of States and Government and its
impact on peace, stability and reconciliation.
Hon. Chikawe told the ASP that, Africa is living in a
world where some countries are still developing institutions which highly depend
on strong leadership, thus indicting sitting Head of State or Government is
more likely to fuel chaos and instability.
He further proposed to the Assembly of State Parties
to come up with recommendations on addressing the concerns raised by African States
for the Court to be effective.
He reiterated Tanzania’s firm commitment to support
the work of the ICC and the efforts by all State Parties to the Rome Statute to
end impunity in the world.
Kama sijaelewa elewa hivi...statement ni too short...je Tanzania tuko in or out...tuna support au tunapinga ICC....?????Te te te
ReplyDeleteHog wash and utter nonsense! Indicting sitting heads of state who have committed atrocities is the right thing to do. To claim that it will cause chaos is so self serving and the height of dishonesty. Is this because of Kenyatta and Ruto that we are losing our principles? What a shame!! I cannot recognize this Tanzania leadership!!
ReplyDeleteAibu tupu! Misimamo ya kuwalinda viongozi sio wananchi!!!
