Geita Gold Mine (GGM) has be-come the overall winner for mining sector during the exhibitions to mark the World Day for Safety and Health at Workplace organized by Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA) in Jamhuri Stadium at Dodoma.

Presenting the award to Geita Gold Mine (GGM), Guest of Honor Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliamentary affairs, labor, employment, Youth and Disabled Ms. Jenister Mhagama congratulated GGM and advised them to keep on maintaining high level of safety and health in their working places.

“The mining industry has high level of risk environment, the stuffs you have showcased here prove that GGM really cares for its employees” She said. The Minister added that she was impressed by the take 5 approaches to prevent accidents at Geita Gold Mine.

The Minister said that the Government through Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA) will continue to coordinate occupational safety and Health program in the mining sector.

On his part, Geita Gold Mine Human Resources Officer Mr Joseph Mugile said he is proud to receive the award on behalf of GGM employees. He said the award has justified that Geita Gold Mining Limited is the best and has high level of occupational safety and health programs in the Country.

“We have showcased high technologies and programs to maintain health and safety to our workers and I am sure, organizers of these exhibitions have all reason to give this award to us “He said. This year’s theme to mark the World day for Safety and health at work is “Work place Stress: A collective challenge”.

Geita Gold Mine Theophil Pima noted that Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA) has recognized them as winner for mining sector because they are second to none. He said that trophy will maintain their Brand, reputation and image and keep on providing required corporate social responsibilities to the people of Geita.

He also said GGM has signed agreement with AAR to run different psychology and medical assistance to its workers in order to reduce stress and psychological problems for its workforce.
