Purpose
The Master’s degree
program aims to generate innovative public health research scientists with
Strong practical research skills, who have the ability to apply their skills at
any level of the Health System. The curriculum is competence based and as such
the course objectives and contents are guided by core competencies that the
graduate from this program will acquire.
Program
Structure
The program will be
delivered through a series of modules that integrate to provide a holistic
systems approach to Public Health. The first semester will cover Common core
modules taken by all students pursuing degrees at NM-AIST and program
foundation modules followed by advanced program core modules in the second
semester depending on the given specialty chosen by the student; the
specialties are:
• Determinants of
Health and Disease
• Interventions
research
• Implementation and
Health Systems Research
The second year will be for research work
and dissertation.
Output
Graduates are expected to fill
posts in public or private sector in the Preventive and health care systems, in
research or academic institutions in the country and the Eastern Africa region.
CAMPUS AND FACULTY
The courses will be conducted at IHI Training
facilities in Bagamoyo, academic staff are from IHI, NM-AIST and collaborators
from Swiss TPH and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. The program
will commence in the coming academic year 2016/17
