H.E. President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete has appointed Dr. Mohammed Omar Maundi (54) to the Tanzanian High Commissioner to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Dr. Maundi is replacing Ambassador Walid Mangachi who was earlier this year transferred to Abuja, Nigeria.
Before the appointment, Dr Maundi was a Minister Counselor in the Permanent Mission of the United Republic of Tanzania to the United Nations, New York.
He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation on 24 March, 1981 as a Foreign Service officer before serving twice as a Lecturer and Head of the Department of Strategic Studies at the Centre for Foreign Relations, Dar es Salaam between 1992-1993 and July 2000 –October 2004.
He also rose to the rank of Acting Director of Studies and Programmes at the Centre Foreign Relations, Dar es Salaam from November 2001 to December 2002. For a period of one year served as a Senior Officer, Political and Diplomatic Affairs, SADC Secretariat, Gaborone Botswana.
Dr. Maundi also served as Political Officer and Head of Chancery at the Tanzania Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia between 1987-1991. The appointment is with immediate effect.

ReplyDeleteNadhani term 'High commission' na the 'High commissioner' vinatumiwa kwa nchi ambazo ni wanachama wa Commonwealth Organization peke yake. Mfano nchi wanachama waliohudhuria mkutano wa Commonwealth hivi karibuni Kampala Uganda. Ethiopia siyo mwanachama wa commonwealth hivyo balozi wetu cheo chake ni 'ambassador' na ubalozi wetu huko Addis ababa ni 'embassy'.

Mlkia anawakilishwa katika kundi la kwanza kupitia Gavana-Jenerali. Kwa hiyo mwakilishi wa State ni huyo huyo. Mabalozi wake (wawakilishi wa serikali) huitwa High Commissioners. Ofisi: High Commissions.
Nchi za kundi la pili, Marais - kama Tanzania - hakuna haja ya kutumia High Commissioners au High Commissions. Sisi tunatumia Ambassador (Embassy)!
Lakini inaonekana kosa hili hayutaki kulisahihisha!!!!!!!!!!!!!
