ReplyDeleteI remember one day I was watching BBC PARLIAMENT channel. While addressing the parliament, the then deputy prime minister, John Prescot while adressing had made a sentence which was grammatically wrong. The shadow foreign secretary of Britain, William Hague was the quickest to seize the moment and said
"Mr Speaker, The deputy prime minister is speaking the kind of english I would expect from president Chirac".
There are 2 points here.
1) English people, born and bred, who think and dream in english, do make grammatical mistakes
2) English people do not expect a foreigner to speak perfect english
Its time now to put all this Kanumba saga to rest and people should just move on.
