Establishment of a New Admission System and Procedures for Admission into Higher Education Institutions in the 2010 / 2011 Academic Year

The Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) hereby reminds prospective higher education students and the general public that due to the admission process into higher education institutions persistently causing many problems, the Commission in collaboration with the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) and higher education institutions resolved to establish a Centralized Admission System (CAS) which will be operational starting this year (2010).

The Central Admission System and the Students Guidebook

The Central Admission System will be accessible by all eligible applicants through the Internet or mobile phone SMS system.

To guide the applicants in the admission process a student Guidebook has been prepared. The Guidebook contains details pertaining to relevant information concerning higher education.

The Guidebook will soon be distributed to all regional education offices, all higher education institutions, and regional centres of the Open University of Tanzania. The Guidebook will also be accessed at TCU, NACTE and all universities and other higher education institutions, that will use the system, Higher Education Students’ Loans Board (and at its zonal offices), and the Zanzibar Ministry of Education and Vocational Training.

A soft copy will also be posted on the TCU website and on the websites of:

Ministry of Education and Vocational Training;
National Council for Technical Education (NACTE);
All universities and other higher education institutions that will use the system;
Higher Education Students Loans Board.
Those who will not be able to access the Guidebook as a hard copy or through the websites of the above institutions can request for a soft copy from TCU through e-mail at es@tcu.go.tz or dad@tcu.go.tz

Eligibility to Use the Central Admission System

Applicants applying through the direct entry scheme after having completed ‘A’ level are eligible to use the Central Admission System, specifically those who completed ‘A’ level from 1988 todate. For now applicants under equivalent or mature age entry schemes will not be eligible to use the new system. These applicants will continue to apply directly to the respective institutions using the old procedures.

Call for Applications for 2010 / 2011 Academic Year

Applications are invited for the 2010 / 2011 academic year through the Central Admission System. The application procedure is as follows:

Applicants who completed ‘A’ level education in previous years should lodge their applications during 31st March up to 31st May 2010. No application will be considered after 31st May 2010.

Applicants who will complete ‘A’ level education in 2010 should lodge their applications after the release of examination results that is from 30th April, 2010 to 31st May 2010.

Applicants are required to select up to 12 programmes from different institutions, at least eight programmes in total, and not more than three programmes from one institution.

Applicants will be notified about their application status on Friday, 4th June 2010 and they will be required to verify the correctness of the application information by 11th June 2010. If TCU does not receive a response by that date the System will proceed to process the application as it is.

As notification and any other communication will be made through e-mail and / or SMS messages, applicants will be required to provide to TCU at least two reliable mobile phone numbers and one e-mail address as they register on the system.

Each applicant will be required to pay an application fee of TShs. 30,000= payable through vouchers, using a procedure which is currently being worked out.

Applicants and the general public who will face difficulties at any stage of the application process or who will need any further information should promptly notify TCU through the contacts indicated below:

Please note that in order to give applicants time to understand the new system the date for lodging applications for applicants who completing their ‘A’ level in previous years has been changed from 15th February to 31st March 2010. TCU highly regrets any inconveniences for this change.

Kuna Maoni 19 mpaka sasa

  1. These guys have to be a little bit considerate!!
    INTRODUCING A NEW SYSTEM NOW AND EXPECT ALL THE CANDIDATES ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO ADOPT IT WITHIN THAT SHORT PERIOD OF TIME IS JUST A BIT FLAWED TO ME!!
    I don`t know exactly when A level results normally come out, but MFANO this year the guys are given from 30th april to 30th may to make an application, that`s one month!! Lets be realistic here, there is communication issues home, not every one will get access to this on time especially people in remote regions; let alone that, I am sure there will be big chunk of candidates who won`t even get information about the existence of the system thereby left out completely (I could be wrong)
    But the truth is, we all know internet connection zetu: the availability, the speed and all other related matters kama umeme and so on and so forth.... PIA payment methods, they are not quite sure how those voucher will be in operation?? and once they are, will they be available to every one and on time????
    I even doubt if they (the staff) will be able to process all applications on time!! (something we all have experienced at some point with civil servants)
    I don`t wanna sound pessimistic and stuff, but I think it take a little be more than that to make a change work!!
    I MUST ADMIT I DON`T KNOW WHAT ADMISSION SYSTEM THEY WERE USING BEFORE, BUT HOWEVER BAD IT COULD HAVE BEEN, IT WOULD NOT HAVE KILLED IF THEY USED IT ONE MORE YEAR (THIS YEAR) AND ALLOW PEOPLE TIME TO PREPARE AND ADOPT THE CHANGE-OVER.
    ''just my opinion!!''

  3. To be honest this is one of the poorest plan ever! How can people initialize a computerized program like this and give no time for its adoption in the society of highly computer illiterate population like ours? May be these are among the reasons that drove Mr.Msemakweli to expose some MPs and RC's educational status! Kukaa sana mjini ndio madhala yake!

  18. TCU mbona mna kigugumizi cha utendaji? Web site yenu ina vichwa vya habari tu,haifunguki.Kama technology imegomba,(is corrupting) si mtumie Magazeti?
