The U.S. Ambassador to Tanzania Hon. Mark B. Childress will inaugurate the American Corner Unguja in Zanzibar tomorrow Wednesday, June 11, 2014,
According toa statement issued today by the US embassy in Dar es salaam, this is a partnership program between the
U.S. Embassy Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar Library Services under the Ministry of Education
and Vocational Training in Zanzibar.
American Corners are partnerships between the US Department of State and
host-country institutions.
The host-country
institution provides the physical space and staff, while Department of State provides
staff training, technical support, equipment, and multimedia materials about
the United States. American Corners also
provide access to English-language learning resources, access to the Internet, and
educational and cultural programs.
Is it being inaugurated or just transferred from where it was to another post? To the best of my knowledge American Corner library was/is situated at the building between Ben Bella and Haile Selassie Secondary Schools, the building which formerly used by the Zanzibar Electoral Commission and later on inherited by the State University of Zanzibar. So the the inauguration had been done long ago!!!!!!
