The Institute of Accountancy Arusha (IAA) has opened a new campus at Buzuruga area, Nyamagana District in Mwanza Region with the aim of reaching  one third of Tanzania’s population living in the Lake Zone.

Already the IAA has established a campus building at Quality Plaza along Nyerere Road in Dar-es-Salaam City and Babati in Manyara.
The Institute has grown from offering full time certificates to undergraduate, postgraduate and Masters programmes.

Speaking at the launch of the campus over the weekend, Mwanza acting Regional Commissioner Baraka Konisaga said the government will continue to invest in the construction of schools and higher learning institutions that’s why the region has provided a plot for the IAA to establish a campus.

Konisaga also called on the accountancy institute to speed up the establishment of more branches countrywide in a move to produce more accountants who will help in developing the economy.

He also said that the government will continue to cooperate with various universities and higher learning institutions in improving Tanzanian education, a move that will see more graduates compete in local and international markets.

He said the establishment of IAA Mwanza campus will help many people from Lake Zone and neighbouring countries to use the college to train in various fields provided by the institution.

“Mwanza community commends IAA for establishing their campus in the region. We urge them to provide all courses that are offered by the institution because Mwanza is largest region after Dar es Salaam, therefore, many youths need educational services,” he said.

Chairperson of the IAA Governing Board Rukia Adamu said that their goal of opening a branch in Mwanza is due to the high number of students enrolling into IAA main campus, and is part of their 2012-2017 strategic plans, which is to establish two campuses.

“By opening Mwanza campus, we have achieved our five year-goal which is to establish two campuses that we have introduced before the target year,” she said.

She pointed that post graduate courses in Mwanza campus will begin in March. She named some courses that will be offered at the campus as Postgraduate Diploma in Accountancy, Postgraduate Diploma in Banking and Finance, Postgraduate Diploma in Banking and Finance, Postgraduate Diploma in Procurement and Supplies Management, Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Management.

Others are Master’s in Information Security, Master’s in Information Security, Masters in Software Engineering, MBA in Logistics Management, Information Technology Management, MSc- Finance and Investment, and MBA in Procurement and Supplies Management.

For his part, IAA rector Prof Johannes Monyo said that after successful launching of Mwanza campus, the institute plans to fulfill other goals that are within their five year strategic plan that started in 2012 and ends in 2017.

“We thank Mwanza regional authorities for providing us with land for setting up this institute. We promise to provide all required courses as agreed by our governing board of directors,” he said.

Prof Monyo also said that with good collaboration with Galgotius University in India, people in Mwanza and Lake Zone will get an opportunity to learn Masters of Science in Software Engineering, Computer Application and Masters of Science in Information Security.

“We are also teaming up with Coventry University to ensure our students access different courses offered outside the country, at affordable fees. Therefore, some courses offered by Coventry University will also be included in our curriculum,” he said.

He added: “Some officials from Coventry University will be here any time from now to give us a go ahead on providing their courses. This follows an inspection of our campus which they carried out a few months ago to see whether our environment is conducive for providing some courses and they were satisfied,” he said.

Prof Monyo went on to say that teaming up with Coventry University would add quality to their education since the latter is recognised as a ‘modern university in UK’, an award it received two years ago.

He further noted that moving closer to the community would help many parents to afford paying for their students because they would study near their homes.
